A great post on self-publishing...

Jess Hartley guest-posted this wonderful article on self-publishing at Monica Valentinelli's website. It's well-written and full of truth.

Check it out HERE!

Self-publishing is a fairly old concept that has undergone a massive change recently, with the new technology available for aurthors to get their writing out there, either in hard-copy through a PoD publisher, or in eBook format.
Remember, just because you can, doesn't mean you should.
This article outlines the circumstances where self-publishing is either a good idea or a bad one.

  2. It seems to me that to have a book taken up by a professional you need to make one sale. To self publish you have make that one sale multiplyed by how many copies you had printed.

  3. To have a book published by a commercial publisher, you need to HAVE a book good enough to be published by a commercial publisher. Between social networking and promotion sites, it's possible to make the network connections to get yourself known to the right people. It all comes down to capitalism. If someone thinks your stuff is good enough to sell enough copies, you'll get published. Start with the small-presses, and then work your way upward. It's so much simpler these days than it ever was.
